A 47-year-old fake police officer, Gregory Anyasodo, from Owerri North, Imo State who was arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command for extorting people in Oshodi area of the state, has confessed to collecting N125,000 from one of his victims, a trader in Oshodi.
The unsuspecting victim, Emmanuella Joseph, had approached RRS officials stationed in Oshodi to report Anyasodo’s threat to arrest her and confiscate her hand bag containing N125,000.
A search around the area led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of a radio that looked like a walkie-talkie and a police identity card, which portrayed him as an Inspector with the number 14873, attached to Lagos Taskforce and Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Confirming the crime, the suspect acknowledged seizing the trader’s bag. He said:
“I have been in the trade since December 2016. I came to Lagos before Xmas in preparation for The Lord’s Chosen convention in Lagos, which was held in February, 2017 at Ijesha.
My early coming for the programme was for me to seize that opportunity to look for job in Lagos. When I couldn’t get a job, I ventured into impersonating the police.
I have been arrested 6 times in Owerri for impersonating WAEC and JAMB officials. I am a father of six. I left my wife with six children when I was coming to Lagos. I have been sleeping in hotels since I got to Lagos.
I make between N10,000 to N15, 000 daily parading myself as police officer and extorting innocent people. What I do is move closer to them and tell them, mostly traders.
I show them my identity card and I threatened to invite my colleagues if they failed to settle me. I am sorry, I have not sent a dime to my wife in Owerri to take care of the six children I left in her possession but occasionally, I call her."
The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a man for impersonating Nigerian Police and extorting people in Oshodi.
The suspect, Gregory Anyasodo, 47, from Owerri North, Imo State was arrested on Thursday after stealing N125,000 from one of his victims, a trader in Oshodi.
The unsuspecting victim, Mrs. Emmanuella Joseph had approach RRS officials stationed in Oshodi to report Anyasodo’s threat to arrest her and the confiscation of her handbag containing N125,000.

He stated further,

I have been arrested thrice by Shell Camp police, Owerri for impersonation.I am a father of six. I left my wife with six children when I was coming to Lagos. I have been sleeping in hotels since I got to Lagos."
"Occasionally, people allow me to sleep on the balconies and corridors of their house after I had convinced them that am a stranger. I make between N10,000 to N15, 000 daily parading myself as a police officer and extorting innocent people”, he stated.
"What I do is move closer to them and tell them, mostly traders. I show them my identity card and I threatened to invite my colleagues if they failed to settle me. I collect the money and I move away."
"I am sorry, I have not sent a dime to my wife in Owerri to take care of the six children I left in her possession but occasionally, I call her. I thought of impersonating police because it would fetch me more money."
Also arrested with Anyasodo were the graphic artist who designed Police Identity Card for him and the owner of the business center.
The three suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.

On reaching out to him to explain what transpired between him and the police and what steps he has taken to resolve the issue.
It was learned as follows:
"I went for a video shoot in Ajegunle. While the video shoot was on, a group of area boys came to harass me for money and all that. I agreed that I was going to give them because if I don’t, they may damage my windscreen or something else in my car and you know now, everything has added money and I didn’t want them to damage anything. I wanted to leave with my car the way I came with it and it was actually help I came to render to my friend, Sound Sultan.
They were about eighty area boys and they belonged to different groups and cartels and each cartel had their headman. So each of the group presented their boss to me; I asked them to appoint somebody amongst all of them whom I would give the money to. They had a little meeting and later presented a guy they wanted me to give the money to.
I told them they should allow me to finish my shoot first. After the music video shoot, I called the attention of the guy and gave him the money. The money became a problem for them and they started fighting. So my boys smuggled me into the car and we were about driving off when from nowhere, a policeman with gun pointing at my car asked me to get down.
I called the attention of one of the officers and said I’m African China and I speak for the public here and trust me, I need to get out of this place and if I don’t, you won’t be able to handle this".
When asked him how much he paid the area boys he refused to disclose the amount, saying;
"It is not necessary. The reason why I won't disclose the amount is because now, it is a public thing. When you say it, it attract other to start demanding for more money. This ones were too many that was why I gave that amount of money."
When asked what was the demands of the police men who prevented him from moving;
he said "What else, their own share na"
When asked if the police men mention he should settle them:
he said' "Yes, they did"
Speaking on the steps he has taken to resolve the issue, African China said he was at the police two days ago and that the police men involved are currently in police custody
"The Inspector General was interested in the case. As I speak with you, the two police men have been apprehended and are in police custody right now at Ajeromi Police Station, Ajegunle. They have been jailed and may be dismissed from the force too."
An Imo based couple, Mr and Mrs Ike pictured carrying their four months old son after he was allegedly kidnapped and sold by a police corporal, Uche Odoemena, popularly known as Prince. The joy of the couple knew no bound when they were handed over the rescued boy in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The Police corporal who has been reportedly dismissed after the state Commissioner of Police ordered for him to be tried in the police orderly room is said to be in detention now at the Owerri Federal prison facility.
Ike claimed that the policeman, popularly known as Prince, snatched her baby at gun point in front of her husband. She also said a lady aided Prince while he carried out the act.
Ike claimed the police corporal, who was reportedly dismissed after he was arrested and tried in the police orderly room and said to have been remanded in prison, allegedly sold the baby to Mercy Home Orphanage in Owerri, the state capital.

According to Kola who shared the news,Edo police arrested and detained 2 Edo men based in Kano who came back home for their grandmother's burial.
Kola said they were arrested at Stella Obasanjo Hospital while waiting for the corpse of their grand mother.According to Barrister Benjamin Iluobe, the police arrested them for being in possession of weed, when they could not find wrap of igbo with them, they accused them of membership of secret cult. The police demanded N200,000 from them for their freedom.However,they refused to comply with the police on the ground that they are innocent. Barrister Iluobe Benjamin questioned the rationale behind the bribe even though the Commissioner of Police wasted money to organize a seminar "Change begins with me" .He exchanged text messages with the CP who claimed to know it all in our state.
CP Harilu Gwandu defended the action of his men and angrily ordered that the young men should be charged to court to teach Iluobe lesson that he knows it all.Presently,they are in prison custody because they refused to part with N200,000.
Two Nigerian police officers in the Bariga area of Lagos State, frustrated that a motorcyclist would not let them extort a bribe from him, instigated a mob to beat up their victim, leaving him comatose, our correspondent found.
The horrific attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday, January 17th, 2017. After failing in their bid to extort the motorcyclist, the two plain-clothes officers rallied a mob by raising an alarm that their victim had attempted to kidnap a baby on his motorcycle.
The police officers then began beating the victim, Awalu Yenusa, and later stood aside and watched as a mob set upon the innocent man, pummeling him to a near-coma.
Narrating his ordeal yesterday, Mr. Yenusa told our correspondent that he was taking one of his regular passengers and her child to school when he saw a police officer disguised in his usual mufti wear and harassing bikers for bribes.
According to him, he was able to recognize the police officer from previous encounters when the officer had tried to extort him. He then advised his passengers to alight from the bike and to meet him at a point past the checkpoint mounted by the rogue officers. However, one of the police officers had already sighted him and moved to ambush him. In a bid to escape the officer, Mr. Yenusa said he sped off, with the child of the woman who had alighted still on his bike.
According to him, the child’s mother cried out that her child was on the fleeing bike. The woman’s yell alerted the public. The two police officers, one in mufti, the other in his uniform, then ran after him.
“The policemen hit me with an object on my head, and then more people gathered and began to beat me while the police held me,” said Mr. Yenusa. He added, “That was all I knew until I opened my eyes in the hospital bed the next day.”
“I know the [officer] in mufti very well. He had stopped me before, disguising himself as a passenger, but then announced to me that he was a police officer and ordered me to stop,” said Mr. Yenusa. According to him, he paid N10, 000 on that occasion even though he had committed no offense.
The unsavory encounter enabled him to realize that the man in mufti was a rogue police officer.
“The woman on my bike on the fateful day is my customer and I have been taking her with her child to school for three years now,” Mr. Yenusa told a correspondent of SaharaReporters.
He accused the police of raising a false alarm on him because the officers knew he was avoiding being extorted by them. He also stated that the officers not only began beating him but also supervised his beating by the mob.
One eyewitness told our correspondent that the two policemen actually thought that their victim was dying before they took him to the Gbagada General Hospital.
Mr. Yenusa stated that he would not suddenly be a kidnapper of a child he had been taking to school for three years.
Mr. Yenusa’s brother, who arrived at the scene where he was being mobbed, said he fought hard to get his brother to the hospital. He described the police officers of callously abandoning his brother's near-lifeless body, perhaps hoping he had died.
“The moment the policemen arrived with me at the hospital with my brother's body, they just dumped him for me and left immediately,” said the victim’s brother. He insisted that the police officers thought his brother was already dead.
The victim said he opened his eyes the next day in the hospital bed.
“When I opened my eyes eventually at the hospital, I noticed it was my brother who had heard of my torture and had insisted I be taken to the hospital,” he said.
Mr. Yenusa expressed shock that a woman who for three years had entrusted him with taking her child to school would allege he was running off with the child when he was merely trying to escape extortionist police officers in Bariga.
“I'm sure the police over-bloated their alarm because I was escaping from paying their bribe,” he said.
Mr. Yenusa told our correspondent that the police or the mob had seized his phone, which contains the telephone number of the woman whose son he had given rides to for three years. He added that the police or the mob had also snatched away some of his other personal effects.
The victim is currently in his home in Oworonsoki recuperating from the serious injuries he sustained from the attacks. He told our correspondent that he could not afford the hospital's bill of a daily N10, 000 for bed occupancy. He said some of his symptoms remained untreated.
Two teachers, Stanley Akanno and Olakunle Hassan, both teachers in a private primary school in Amuwo Odofin, were yesterday paraded by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, AIG Kayode Aderanti, for serially defiling their 6-year-old female pupil.
The teachers, he said, during extra mural classes, showed pornography on their laptop to the pupil and made her practice same on them. “The pupil has been taken to a government hospital where it was medically established that she had been deflowered. The suspects will soon be charged to court,” Aderanti said.
They were arrested following suspicion by the girl’s mother that her daughter has suddenly become sexually active. The girl’s mother, while narrating how the daughter was defiled, said: “I noticed that my daughter was kissing his brother’s joystick.
I called her and interrogated her where she learnt the behaviour and she told me that her lesson teacher plays erotic films on his laptop and forced her to watch it. She added that the teacher will then defile her. We reported the case to the police and from the investigation, it showed that she was defiled.”
Detectives from Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) have arrested a policeman for allegedly shooting and killing a 21-year-old boy, while he was praying at the Lagos Island area of the metropolis.
The policeman, attached to the Lion Building Station, has been simply identified as Chelsea. Eye witnesses claimed that that the tipsy policeman, slipped and his corked rifle exploded, pumping three bullets into the stomach, right hand and knee of the victim named Qouzeem Hassan.
Hassan was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital by policemen, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
ENCOUNTER WITH SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RECOVERY OF ARMS /AMMUNITION AT YUGA FOREST IN TORO LGA OF BAUCHI STATE

However, 48 hostages were rescued in good condition of health.Meanwhile, efforts are being intensified to apprehend fleeing suspects.Members of the public are urged to assist the police with information by reporting suspicious persons especially those with bullet wounds to the nearest police station for prompt action please.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it has received 120 case files from the police for the prosecution of electoral offenders from 2015 till date.
The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this when he received the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Investigative Panel on December 10 Rivers State legislative rerun election on Wednesday in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Yakubu said 61 out of the files had been successfully prosecuted through the INEC collaboration with security agencies on the matter.
He said, “We have cooperated with the security agencies particularly the police in prosecuting electoral offenders.
“Since 2015 general elections and the rerun elections in 2016, we have received 120 case files from the police for prosecution.
“I am happy to say that we have so far recorded 61 successful prosecutions as a result of the cooperation with the security agencies.
“The biggest one came after the disruption of the April 2016 rerun elections in Kano state, in a constituency in Minjibir local government area.
“In the election, over 40 offenders were successfully prosecuted in a joint effort between the commission and the security agency. The highest number of prosecution the commission has ever achieved.”
